We are thrilled to share the incredible news that Virgin Galactic and the International Institute for Astronautical Sciences (IIAS) are launching an all-women international crew for the IIAS-002 mission! This groundbreaking team includes Kellie Gerardi from the United States, Dr. Shawna Pandya, MD, the first Canadian female commercial astronaut, and Dr. Norah Patten, the first Irish astronaut to go to space. Their journey is a powerful example of what our Junior Einsteins can achieve, especially the girls who dream of a future in STEM.

Meet the Crew:

Kellie Gerardi (US): Kellie Gerardi is a shining star in the world of aerospace research and science communication. Her dedication to making science accessible and exciting is a perfect role model for our Junior Einsteins. Kellie’s journey from a curious child to a pioneering astronaut shows that with passion and perseverance, anyone can reach for the stars.

Dr. Shawna Pandya, MD (Canada): Dr. Shawna Pandya will become the first Canadian female commercial astronaut, showcasing the incredible opportunities available in STEM. As a physician and scientist, she combines medical knowledge with space exploration, illustrating the diverse paths our young scientists can take. Dr. Pandya’s achievements are a reminder that interdisciplinary skills can open new doors and inspire innovation.

Dr. Norah Patten (Ireland): Dr. Norah Patten is making history as the first Irish astronaut to go to space. Her background in engineering and aerospace research demonstrates the importance of technical expertise and perseverance. For our Junior Einsteins, especially the girls, Dr. Patten’s success is a beacon of possibility, encouraging them to pursue their dreams no matter where they come from.

Inspiring Our Junior Einsteins:

This mission is more than a milestone in space exploration; it’s a beacon of inspiration for our own ‘Junior Einsteins’. Seeing women from diverse backgrounds achieve such extraordinary goals encourages our young scientists, especially girls, to believe in their potential and pursue careers in STEM. Representation matters, and these trailblazers show that no dream is too big.

Everything we do here at Junior Einsteins Science Club® is because we are passionate about bringing STEM to young children in a fun-filled, high-energy way. We nurture children’s natural curiosity and creativity, inspiring our ‘Junior Einsteins’ to use their imaginations, make a mess, and explore and discover in STEM & STEAM areas. Children wear lab coats and goggles, enjoying lots of outdoor fun! Through our bespoke science-based, hands-on events, we develop children’s personal confidence and self-esteem. We teach children ‘how to think, not what to think,’ best preparing them for our ever-changing world.

STEM Summer Camps and Junior Astronauts One-Day Science Camp:

We are especially excited about our week-long STEM Summer Camps and our ‘Junior Astronauts’ one-day science camp. These camps are designed to immerse children in the world of science, encouraging them to build their love of STEM from an early age.

Through fantastic interactive experiments, such as slime making to learn about long-chain polymerisation and non-Newtonian fluids, or lighting a lightsabre with a plasma ball to understand how electricity flows, we inspire our ‘Junior Einsteins’ to explore a broad range of STEM subjects. Activities cover fossil making, forensics, rocket races, bug hunts, geology, and volcanoes, among many others.

Our camps are filled with fun and learning, ensuring that children build their love of science in primary school and choose science as a subject in secondary school and beyond. We hope our ‘Junior Einsteins’ will grow up to be the next generation of scientists and explorers!

We are incredibly excited to cheer on Kellie Gerardi, Dr. Shawna Pandya, and Dr. Norah Patten as they embark on this historic mission. Their dedication, courage, and achievements are a source of inspiration for our Junior Einsteins, showing them that with hard work and passion, anything is possible. As we watch these trailblazing women make history, let’s remind our young scientists that they too can reach for the stars.

Stay tuned for more updates on the IIAS-002 mission and join us in celebrating the incredible women inspiring our future STEM leaders! 🌟👩‍🚀💪
