Primrose Hill NS, Junior & Senior Infants, After-School Science Club, 19th April-24th May, 1:15pm-2:15pm

During our exciting and fun after-school club children will explore a range of exciting science topics. Science Lab Coats and Goggles are provided.

We have a huge emphasis on FUN with lots of science explosions throughout!

If you have questions please contact us by email; kildarejunioreinsteins@gmail.com

19th April: Optical Illusions: Our ‘Junior Einsteins’ learn about how cartoons are made and how the eye tricks the brain. Children learn about after-image and the anatomy of the eye. Our Junior Einsteins use a Zoetrope and make their own thaumatropes as well as seeing many fun, interesting illusions !

26th April: Forensics: To introduce children to the concept of forensic science. Using a fun crime scene, we explore all of the ways that a Crime scene Investigator discovers who the culprit of the crime is using scientific methods. Children use their imagination alongside science facts to find out Whodunnit! Using exciting methods such as DNA, Fingerprinting, Show rubbings, Black Lights and teeth marks we explore the evolution of the science of crime.

3rd May: Elephants Toothpaste: To help children gain an understanding of the codependency between Hydrogen Peroxide and Enzymes (yeast) as a catalyst to drive an exothermic reaction. Children love to see this bubbling colourful reaction. Children feel the heat in the foamy result! Children will be fascinated by the observation of a chemical reaction and will enjoy that they can do one by themselves. During that process they will learn about chemical terminology like Exothermic reaction and decomposition. They will learn that a catalyst speeds up chemical reactions and they will learn about the science fact behind it in this case about enzymes.

10th May: To show children the strength in the shape of an egg. To explain basic engineering concepts to children. Children take challenges and learn skills in teamwork.

17th May: Float your boat: Children learn how boats float and engage in experiments that demonstrate buoyancy.

24th  May: Colourful Crystals: To help children gain an understanding of the development of crystals from a geological point of view and get them engaged in growing their own crystals.
