Summer Science Camp 2023
During this really Award Winning Junior Einsteins Summer Science Camp we will delight children in the following exciting range of content. Our aim is to inspire and ensure that children are excited and interested in Science. This will be an incredible week of learning, making friends and having fun through our unique , exciting and inspiring experiments.
All Junior Einsteins wear Science Lab Coats and Science Goggles. Events are suitable for 5-12 year old children.

Space Science – Children will learn about the planets of our Solar System and make their own take home blasting rocket while learning some chemistry about how it blasts!
Marble Run Challenge – Our ‘Junior Einsteins’ complete many experiments including building marble runs and then reverse race marbles, promoting design skills and planning, reasoning and physics. Children have to think about what they are creating, and use focus, imagination and problem-solving skills all while having fun. A marble can teach a lot about momentum friction and gravity.
Non-Newtonian Slime Making – Children will investigate/experience the viscosity of different fluids. Through the process of making our slime, children will become familiar with the properties of a non-Newtonian fluid.
Elephants Toothpaste – To help children gain an understanding of the co-dependency between Hydrogen Peroxide and Enzymes (yeast) as a catalyst to drive an exothermic reaction. Children love to see this bubbling colourful reaction. Children feel the heat in the foamy result! Children will be fascinated by the observation of a chemical reaction and will enjoy that they can do one by themselves. During that process they will learn about chemical terminology like Exothermic reaction and decomposition. They will learn that a catalyst speeds up chemical reactions and they will learn about the science fact behind it in this case about enzymes.

Electricity Workshop – This series of fun experiments is designed to help our Junior Einstein’s to observe and understand, through demonstration-based learning, how electrical charge flows through materials. We also aim to show them that some materials can conduct electricity and others cannot. Visually this is a very popular science concept and one that the children won’t forget! Children learn that a Van Der Graaf generator is a machine which uses a moving belt to accumulate very high charges on a hollow metal globe. Children discover that The Van Der Graaf Generator was developed in 1929 by American physicist Robert J Van Der Graaf. Children love to see a Barbie Doll have a ‘hair raising experience’.
Density & Lava Lamp Making – To help children gain an understanding of the concept of density and why some liquids float on top of each other. Children have fun with several experiments and take home their own lava lamps.
Sunscreen Science – To introduce the concept of spectrums and light waves and develop an understanding of Ultra- Violet light and where it is used. Through activity-based learning children will develop an awareness of how sunscreen works and why it is important to use. Children will use their own take-home UV pens.

Bug Hunt – This Bugs Scavenger Hunt is a fun and interactive science activity teaching children about the different types of insects and bugs. They learn about the anatomy of different insects. Through group exploration children will find various species of insects, harmlessly contain them for the duration of the activity, observe them with magnifying glasses and journal their findings with drawings or notes.
Wildflower Seed Bombs – The aim of this session is to highlight the importance of wildflowers in an ecosystem’s biodiversity. Bees, birds & butterflies are identified as pollinators of wildflowers. Children will gain an understanding of the relationship between natural pollination & food production. How can we attract more pollinators to our gardens & ecosystems? Let’s make a wildflower seed- bomb to plant in our garden.
Muddy Worms – Our Junior Einsteins learn that earthworms are good. They learn that worms eat up organic matter and leave droppings that help plants to grow better. They come to understand that worms create water and air channels for plant roots to grow quickly. Junior Einsteins explore facts about soil, complete several experiments and create their own take-home wormery.

Mad Magnets – Children will investigate how to distinguish between magnetic and non-magnetic objects. Students will explore the basic natural behaviour of the magnet. Through fun activities like ‘magnetic car racing’, they will be able to discover the mystical power of magnets. Students will become aware of the fact that not all metals are magnetic.
Blasting Volcanos – Our ‘Junior Einsteins learn about the ever-changing earth. This session explores the Earths Structure. Children learn about Earth’s four layers, plate movements and volcano formation. Each activity is designed to promote learning by engaging children in a process of self-discovery using the scientific method and having amazing fun blasting volcanos.
pH – Children will investigate the properties of some common and safe acids and alkali. They will recognise that solutions which show one colour in acids and another in alkalis are called indicators. Through the use of indicators, children will be able to classify solution as acid or alkaline.
Bath Fizzers – Children make two bath fizzers and test their performance, investigating the best proportions of ingredients to get the ultimate ‘fizz’. Children learn the science behind how chemicals break down. Children create their own gifts while learning science.

Building Bridges – Creating, imagining, planning and building bridges with simple materials and learn that changing the shape of these same materials can improve their strength. Children also use the scientific skills of prediction, observation, teamwork communication, comparison, measurement, problem solving, and cooperative investigation.
Graduation – Children will be recognised for their achievement of completing all of the experiments during the week. Should they wish to they will be asked to tell the group about something new that they learned that they didn’t know before, what their favourite experiment was and why and they will show the group a science object from home (can be anything of their choice) to show and tell the group about.
Kids Party – Children will have a Party in celebration of the week with all of the friends they have made. They will play musical interactive games.
Bouncy Slime – Through the process of making PVA and boron slime, children will investigate how we can make a different type of slime based on the concept of polymerization. Children will learn why scientists care about slime and it’s uses in nature and industry.
